A LITTLE CHILLY AT THE RANCH

We made so many new friends with families coming to pick up their new puppies for the Christmas holidays. We have already received a lot of Christmas morning pictures and back yard by the firewood pictures and tired puppy sleeping under the Christmas tree pictures. It is so much fun to see what wonderful homes our puppies get to go to.
We do still have a few puppies here at Big Dog Ranch and two of them decided to go and find a new home by themselves late this afternoon. Our trainer had come by to work with the puppies on sitting for their puppy chow; so I pulled myself away from my “dog mail” on the computer to check on the progress of the training. It is so cute to watch the little puppies all sit in unison when they see the food bowl. When I got to the puppy kennel there were only four puppies. I counted. I counted. I counted. EEEEEEKKKK!! Our trainer thought I had sold two. NO!!
We are going to have a serious cold snap tonight. We were already preparing the nursery to put the puppies back in there for the night, and I am missing two puppies who have apparently gone for a walk in the woods.
We split up for the search and took Desi, the mama dog, with us. We had three different versions of calling up the puppies echoing through the trees. I worked my way down to the creek, and we already had reinforcements on the way to help in the search. I couldn’t imagine that they had crossed the creek, and I didn’t want to think of the possibilities. I was searching by myself, and finally headed back the way I had come and ran into our big orange and white cat at our dog cemetary. I stopped to speak to some of my dogs who have passed and the cat decided to join the hunt. I followed Sunshine the Cat , and as we topped the hill near the gate that I had come in there were the puppies! Sunshine meowed me to them and went on his way after I scooped the pups up.
The puppies were a bit confused and tired. They kept sitting down on the walk back to the puppy kennel; so I stopped and just carried the little fellows back. Such nice fat puppies are not too heavy when you have been so worried about them.
Thank goodness. Back in their nest and a nice warm supper and a nap before we moved them back into the nice warm nursery to keep them snug and safe on this cold January night.
